Edo period (1615-1868) or Meiji era (1868-1912),
19th/20th century
Both boxes with domed overhanging kabusebuta covers, decorated in
gold and silver hiramaki-e on a nashiji or hirame ground, the larger tebako
(cosmetic box) with floral family crests and scrolling vines and flowers
with inlays of mother-of-pearl, applied with gilt cord rings engraved with
paulownia flowers, with a removable inner tray decorated in hirame on a
dark brown ground; the smaller fushibako (pigment box) decorated with
fruiting tachibana (mandarin) and pine trees, interiors nashiji
6in (15.2cm) high, the larger

Edo period (1615-1868), 19th century
Rectangular with canted edges and sumikiri (angled corners), decorated in
two shades of gold hiramaki-e and takakmaki-e with highlights of kirikane,
kinji, hirame, nashiji, and uchikomi on a graduated brown ground with
blossoming cherry and pine trees enshrouded in mist and young pine
trees among rocks, the interior decorated in sparse hirame, the rims silver

A SILVER MOUNTED LACQUER VASE
Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th century
Lacquered in several shades of gold, silver, brown, and black
takamaki-e, hiramaki-e, and togidashi maki-e against a kinji ground with
embellishments of hirame and shell, decorated with panels of monkeys
pulling a flower cart, and a peacock and peahen perched in a cherry tree,
the side panels decorated with coiling dragons, the surrounding areas with
stylized floral scrolls, the neck with lotus flowers against a ground of floral
lozenges, the mouth and foot applied with silver mounts
