SUFFRAGE & THE FEMINISM MOVEMENT
Suffrage by Ellen Perry
We, the people of the great United
States of America, must understand that
women are just as important men. We deserve
everything a man is granted and that is what
we are fighting for now. Women have never
been, and will never be second-class citizens;
we are just as worthy of the vote as men.
Women have made much advancement, yet we
are far less equal to men in the eyes of the law.
Suffrage means equality and equality means
women finally being granted the rights we
deserve.
As we enter the twentieth century we
look at all we have done, all the progress we,
Americans have seen and still see that over
half of the US citizens cannot and have never
been able to vote. Yet the elected government
expects every citizen to pay taxes and follow
the laws. That just doesn’t make sense. It’s not
logical. When you demand that of someone,
you should give them some say in what they
are agreeing to. Otherwise it is hard to classify
what we have as a democracy.
Though men and woman are very
different in nature, femininity is something to
be proud of. It’s something that both unites us
and makes us different at the same time. It
should be exciting! The difference of thought
can prove useful and helpful in political,
social, and economic platforms. The different
upbringings can show different emotions,
which maintain different opinions, which help
push to the goals we desire.
