Page 32 - Drawing Made Easy
P. 32
If the reference material is very small, it's easy to be just a jot off when you're measuring, and that "jot" turns into a big problem when the drawing is enlarged. Sometimes I'll have measured from the top of the hair instead of the top of the skull, and then everything is off. Remember, the eyes are in the centre of the skull, so you can use them to help determine a true head length. If I've measured correctly and proportion is still a problem, it is sometimes because I've emphasized lines or shadows too much on the problem feature. In that case, the proportion is actually correct, but because the eye is drawn to the flaw in contrast, it appears to be wrong. Take breaks every 20 minutes or so as you draw and come back to it with fresh eyes to catch those mistakes before they develop too far to fix. Page 32 of 37
