family to the hair capital, Atlanta, Georgia, to open
2013 it became one of the first African-American
hair salons to be featured in a commercial on one of
Northern New Jersey’s local cable networks.
Kindra’s motivation and business savviness would
soon pay off big as the passionate, crafty stylist
understood early on that it is not only about
cultivating fabulous looks but also about listening
and learning about her clients; this was her secret
for coming up with “signature” looks designed to fit
each client’s personality and lifestyle. Her attention
to detail landed her the role of celebrity stylist to
fellow Newark native and female rapper Ms. Nana,
as she toured with rap artist Bow Wow on the
“Holladay Jam, We Ain’t Done Yet” tour.
Never falling short of keeping up with the latest
trends in hair care, Kindra decided that she wanted
to enhance her skills and knowledge, so in 2014, she
attended a “Short Hair/Look & Learn” Boot Camp
under the tutelage of a master stylist, Najah Aziz,
owner of Like the River Hair Salon in Atlanta, GA.
This experience sparked something in the stylist
that helped her understand that she now had a new
calling. So, after 12 years of running her New Jersey
salon, Kindra decided to call it quits and relocate her
up her current salon SHORT Hair Xpress.
Focusing on short cuts and styles, she has now
attracted even more celebrity clientele like up and
coming R&B singer, songwriter Sonyáe Elise, the
winner of Bravo’s show, Platinum Hits.
The boot camp that was meant to provide a few
new tips and techniques opened the door to one of
Kindra’s most outstanding achievements, which was
becoming a licensed Cosmetology Instructor.
For over 27 years, Kindra Wright - Horn has
established clientele throughout New Jersey,
Maryland, and Atlanta, Georgia, making her a
household name. When asked, what’s next? She
always answers “to open a chain of Short Hair
Xpress Salons and a beauty school that focuses on
showing new stylists how to survive in the beauty
industry no matter what.”
