Carlous Palmer
arlous Palmer,
the youngest
of 6 children,
was born in the
Csouthern part of
New Jersey. His fascination
with fabrics and clothing
started at a young age as
he watched his mother and
aunts stylishly coordinate
and flaunt beautiful
garments and accessories.
Carlous’s journey into
fashion began after
the family relocated to
Baltimore, MD, and he was
accepted as one of the
first students to attend the
Baltimore School for the
Arts to study visual arts
education. However, an
eager Carlous would soon
realize that the school was
not precisely what he’d
expected as they did not
offer a program for fashion
& design in which he was
interested. On the verge of
quitting, it was the guest
appearance of teacher and
artist Joyce Scott who
came and changed his life
forever. Ms. Scott taught
the young student dye
and papermaking, which
sparked his interest in
textiles and made it clear
that fashion design was
what he was called to do.
After graduating from
the Baltimore School for
the Arts in 1982, Palmer
attended Baltimore City
Community College, where
he received a full-tuition
