On an In Sickness & In Health KHON2 segment, Adventist Health Castle interventional cardiologist Jamalah Munir, MD, FACC, spoke about heart health for women, atherosclerosis or hardening of the heart arteries, and the difference in heart disease symptoms for women.
Dr. Munir said atherosclerosis is commonly caused by diet and lifestyle choices such
as: smoking, obesity, physical inactivity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes. She said chest pain, nausea, vomiting or extreme fatigue that occurs when one is at rest could be signs of a heart attack. Dr. Munir advised women to have regular visits with their primary doctor, and screening and treatment for high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes.

of KHON2 Modern Wahine with Brooke Lee and gave viewers tips on how to have a healthy heart that included lifestyle changes such as exercise and adopting a plant-based diet. Dr. Munir can be reached at 263- 5174 for office appointments.
Castle President Kathy Raethel was featured in a Pacific Business News article titled, “From winning awards to championing compassionate care.” Raethel talked about growing up in Australia and a nursing career that led her eventually to becoming the first female president and CEO in 2011. Raethel talked about the national accolades such as the Malcom Baldrige National Quality Award that Adventist Health castle has received during her presidency

staying healthy and the
importance of mammograms. Bucsher said Castle recommends women have annual mammograms and that with the improved equipment in use at Castle today mammograms are quicker and more comfortable. Buscher added that both women and men should be able to find the time to be screened.

at Adventist Health Castle to talk with oncologist Jonathan Cho, MD for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Dr. Cho shared that breast cancer can affect both men and women, and exercise and diet can lower one’s risk of breast cancer. Dr. Cho shared statistics for the incidence of breast cancer in both men and women in Hawai‘i and

stressed that exercise, especially, can lower one's risk of breast cancer. He also outlined effective treatment options.
Ontiveros also spoke with Kristen Polenz, director of Imaging Services, to show viewers how mammograms are done, and how to schedule a mammogram at Castle. She also said that breast cancer is highly treatable if caught early. To schedule a mammogram at Castle call 263-5166 and choose option 1.
