Page 10 - Ranger Home Care - Carer Handbook
P. 10

The role of our carers is extremely valuable, and we accept that this takes dedication and commitment. Remember that everybody is an individual and have led a life as full and interesting as our own: ask them about themselves and their story. Ensure that you respect the client’s right to privacy, dignity and choice.
Care is about using warmth, knowledge, understanding and skill to help and assist another person. The goals of caring must relate to the activities of daily living.
Being a carer, you will be engaging in numerous relationships with a wide range of people: the client, members of their family, colleagues, and other professionals. It is likely that you will develop close relationships with your client and their families, which will determine your effectiveness in caring for them.
Remember it is a professional relationship and its purpose is to support and allow the client to remain in their own home. Be aware of your skills and capabilities, and do not perform tasks that you do not feel confident to complete. We are always here to help.
The client should expect to be shown respect and provided with a good service.
  COMMENCING WORK
CONFIRMATION OF EMPLOYMENT
Welcome aboard, make sure all your documentation has been submitted as this is vital for you to be paid.
A checklist for you is:
• CV/Application form
• Payroll form
• Completed Personal Profile
• Signed employment contract
• References have these been completed • DBS have you received your copy
• Right to work
This handbook covers all the conditions of employment applicable to you in this employment. You have been provided with a job description of the position to which you have been appointed, but this may be amended depending on our changing needs and your abilities.
A NOTE ABOUT DBS
Since you are working with vulnerable people, the Health and Social Care Act 2008 states that we must check your status on the register of persons considered to be unsuitable for employment with vulnerable people (the ‘DBS’ check), as well as your criminal record. On the application form you have given us permission to execute these inspections; if these records indicate any past misdemeanours and give us an unsatisfactory response then your employment will not be confirmed and will be terminated immediately. During the time before your criminal record check is received and judged to be satisfactory, you may not commence working with clients on your own.
