Caring for Those Who Once Cared for Others
Setting the standard for high quality compassionate care is our core philosophy at the Jewish Home at Rockleigh.
We are proud to be rated as a 5-star facility by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Responding to our changing environment and the increasing acuity of those we serve is an ongoing process. Our innovative services, positive rehabilitation outcomes and our reputation for outstanding care ensures that we are
the preferred subacute and long-term care provider in this region.
Our census fluctuated a great deal over the past year. Since the ‘well elderly’ are staying at home in the community, those who do come to the Jewish Home
have increased complex medical needs. The successful decrease of re-hospitalization rates continues to be a priority and we believe that the results of this effort are better care. An on-site nurse practitioner has resulted in fewer weekend hospitalizations. Admissions staff work as weekend navigators to ease the admissions process. In collaboration with our respiratory therapy team, nursing staff have been trained to care for those who have

tracheostomies and we also are able to provide total parenteral nutrition services (TPN). We also provide hospice and palliative care. These efforts are designed to improve care and enhance the lives of the elders we serve.
Our Parkinson’s initiative has had a positive impact on
our census. Between eight and ten individuals with a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease are admitted to the Home each month for rehab services and we average
over 25 individuals with this diagnosis at the Home at any given time. Our support group, boxing, Tai Chi, Pilates and dance programs are well attended not just by those with Parkinson’s but also those with different types of move- ment disorders and those living with dementia. This initiative has opened the door to receive new prestigious grants. A Parkinson’s Voice Project grant provided funding for the education of our speech therapy staff on the SPEAK OUT and LOUD CROWD methods. These programs focus on improving vocal quality and articulation. We are the only organization in this area to be offering these services. A community grant from the national Parkinson’s Founda- tion provides funding for LaughActive which incorporates principles of laughter yoga into our programming.
Staff at all levels are being educated about the Green House philosophy and principles in preparation for our roll out. Our residents continue to be involved in wonderful programs such as Jewish Home University, Opening Minds through Art, baking and the annual musical to name
