5 The Application of the Five (5) Principles
of Maqasid Shariah in State Governance

                                                  5.1 Preservation of Religion

In the Malaysian context, preserving religion (ad-din) means avoiding anything that may harm
or destruct the core foundations including protecting the country and the position of Islam as the
religion of the Federation and allowing other religions to be practiced in peace and harmony as
               stated in the Federal Constitution.

The government has the responsibility of giving utmost priority to religion. Preserving the faith of
the people is of paramount importance and must be emphasised in order to ensure our obedience
to Allah, the Almighty and His Prophet, peace be upon him. Obedience towards the ruler must also
               be emphasised.
