Joint Commission Readiness
Let the Games Begin!
As West Kendall Baptist Hospital prepares for the upcoming Joint Commission (TJC)
visit, all departments play a major role in their contributions. In the spirit of interdisci-
plinary cooperation, the Continuous Readiness Rounds (CRR) have been a great suc-
cess. In true West Kendall Baptist Hospital fashion, the Performance Improvement (PI)
department developed an innovative way in providing a fun avenue for Joint Commis-
sion readiness. After careful planning, the PI team launched the TJC Readiness Escape
Room on Monday November 4, 2019.
The escape room consisted of 12 clinical stations, as well as 8 non-clinical stations. All
stations were designed with the intent to reinforce policies, procedures and processes
in a fun interactive forum. Upon entering the escape room, teams were facilitated by a
mock TJC surveyor who presented the scenario and guided the team. Stations focused
on the following:
Hand hygiene
Patient identification
Order clarification
Consents
Pillar boards
Restraints
Physician Privileges
Biohazard waste
Hospital based Codes
Pain Management
Patient Safety
As teams of 3 arrived throughout the day, initial apprehension turned into excitement
and gratitude at completion. Everyone from front-line staff, educators to supervisors
participated in the experience. Events such as this show the interdisciplinary atmos-
phere of cooperation and the unique approach that West Kendall Baptist Hospital uti-
lizes in educating their staff.
