    Michelle Manalang, Medical Technologist, Be-
thesda Hospital East, Laboratory, was recog-
nized for a “Great Catch” . When running a
CBC test, Ms. Manalang noticed a patient’s he-
moglobin and platelet counts had increased.
She investigated to ascertain whether the pa-
tient had received a blood transfusion poten-
tially contributing to the increases and alerted
Chemistry Lab to hold off releasing the re-
sults. Ultimately, it was determined there
were result discrepancies and, what initially
appeared to be increases in counts, were
proven to be incorrect due to the efforts of
    Ms. Manalang.

A “Great Catch” was awarded to Gina Santos,
RN, Patient Care Supervisor, SMH CDU, for
identifying a wrong medication history in
Cerner. The involved patient had the same
name and date of birth as another patient.
Ms. Santos confirmed with the patient the
medications listed were incorrect. She imme-
    diately notified Pharmacy, Risk Management
and Nursing Clinical Informatics and the in-
correct medication list was successfully re-
    moved from Cerner.

“Great Catches” were presented to Kevin
    Diaz, UCC-Palmetto Bay Patient Financial
Rep. 2 and Kiara Smith, UCC-Palmetto Bay
Lead Patient Financial Rep. Mr. Diaz was
recognized for assisting a patient recently
discharged from a BHSF facility who came
to the UCC to fill a medication prescription.
He notified the patient’s physician regard-
ing the appropriate dispensing process and
facilitated the prescription being routed to
the patient’s pharmacy. Ms. Smith was rec-
ognized for identifying and reporting a pa-
tient using multiple aliases. HIM was con-
tacted and the patient’s medical record was
    corrected.
