radiated to his right side. He had undergone all sorts of clinical testing, especially to rule out cardiac problems. He had been medicated with sedatives and pain killers but the pain had never receded. On the 1-year anniversary of his son’s death he was overcome with grief and he suffered a transient ischemic attack (T.N.: a “mini-stroke”) which lasted a few hours, and which had caused paresthesia and left hemisphere paralysis. He had come out of this experience without sequels. However, he had continued to smoke up to 3 packs of cigarettes per day and continued to experience the dorsal pain.
During the physical examination I palpated the 7th dorsal vertebra and he experienced intense pain. I looked for the corresponding point on the right ear (located on the ear pavilion’s edge) this point also was extremely painful to the touch. I proceeded to color that point in yellow. Just a few moments later the dorsal pain had decreased by approximately 50% as per the patient’s own description. I then asked if he was willing to treat the trauma of his son’s death. I asked him to recall the most terrible image he could bring to mind. He then described the moment when he went to the hospital morgue to recognize his son; his head was completely damaged. I asked him to concentrate on that image and later I asked him to tell me how he felt. He said he did not feel anything, that even the doctors had been surprised by his reaction when he saw the body. I asked him what thoughts were coming to his mind and he replied: “for me it was just like another case”.
I went on to detect the painful points in his left ear lobe and proceeded to mark them with yellow. After a minute the image had disappeared; and then I asked him how he felt. He was noticeable calmer and he said: “I never cried”. I palpated his back again and the pain was completely gone. One month later, in his second visit, he did not have any pain; he had reduced his smoking to one packet a day and he seemed more serene and accepting about the loss of his son.
Chromo Auricular Therapy for the treatment of psychic trauma– conclusions
Chromotherapy is an easy-to-learn, easy-to-replicate technique; which, nonetheless, needs to be handled by certifed therapists with training in the treatment of trauma. I think the scientifc evidence that supports the affrmations I have made in this section are of the outmost importance. Because I can understand that for those not familiarized with this type of treatment, it may be diffcult to believe that such a simple technique may have such powerful effects.
I will now end with an anecdote from September 2007 when I travelled to Porto Alegre, Brazil, where Dr. Raphäel Nogier was conducting a seminar
