DIRECTOR CIRO GUERRA
Ciro Guerra (born February 1981) is a Colombian film director and screenwriter. He made his first film
Wandering Shadows in 2004 at the age of 23. His next film “The Wind Journeys” competed in the Un
Certain Regard section at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.
His 2015 Film “Embrace of the Serpent” was screened in the Director’s Fortnight section at the 2016
Cannes Film Festival where it won the C.I.CA.E. award. The film was also among the nominees for
Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards, being the first Colombian film ever to be
nominated.
Guerra’s most recent film, “Birds of Passage”, was screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018. The
film won the FIPRESCI Prize for Best Film in the Motovun Film Festival 2018. Additionally, in 2018 “Birds
of Passage” was nominated for the Golden Duke award in the Odessa International Film Festival and
the Variety Piazza Grande Award at the Locarno International Film Festival. “Birds of Passage” will have
it’s Canadian Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2018 and the film will be
released in the United States on February 13th, 2019.
