Only un-ionized lipid soluble drugs can pass through BBB and
placental membrane to exert central effects and affect the fetus

respectively.

Drug Metabolism (Biotransformation)

It aims to eliminate the drugs by converting lipid soluble drugs into
more polar and less lipid soluble compounds enhancing their renal
excretion.

Phases of biotransformation
Phase I (Non synthetic) reactions by oxidation, reduction or

hydrolysis.
