THE PUBLIC HEALTH EDUCATION SYSTEM VIA THE
TELECONFERENCE SYSTEM: A CASE STUDY OF

CHIANRAIPRACHANUKROH HOSPITAL

ABSTRACT

Current medical knowledge and advances in procedures, and technologies have
grown rapidly. It is difficult to inform and educate the staffs of community hospitals and

also the general hospitals in a timely manner. This education is essential for medical
profession and public health personnel. These ongoing learning is necessary for application
to patients.

ChiangraiPrachanukroh Hospital has developed a knowledge-based system
through teleconferencing, bringing the knowledge and updates to the network’s team
hospitals in all groups of Lanna Health's zone 3. This group consists of all community

hospitals in Chiang rai province and all community hospitals in Phayao, including Phayao

Hospital. The results of the two-year operation are satisfactory as the listeners are easily
accessible. They are able to view the lectures both in real time (live) and/or review as
often as needed via internet and/or their mobile phones. The lectures are held 2-4 times a

month by lecturers from ChiangraiPrachanukroh hospital, and elsewhere. Teleconference
system has saved a substantial amount of money and time that is usually consumed for
transportation and reduced budget for conferences in comparison with the previous styles.

The remote learning system through teleconference is a method that can assist in

the delivery of knowledge with the two-way communication as well. It should be an
innovative way to improve the knowledge and to potentiate more medical consultation.
