Pornchai Aroonasirakul M.D.*
ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND
The adrenal glands are important organs that release hormones which
affect many parts of the human body. Adrenal gland tumors are very rare. The
surgical resection is the main treatment of adrenal tumors or abnormality that
improves patient’s quality of life. There has been a paradigm shift from open to
laparoscopic approaches for adrenal pathologies. Laparoscopic surgery is safe for
patients. Along with many advantages, Chiangrai Prachanukroh hospital has then
performed laparoscopic adrenalectomy since 2010.
OBJECTIVE
To study surgical success and complications of Laparoscopic Adrenalectomy.
METHODS
This study was a retrospective study. The subject was laparoscopic adrenalectomy
patients in Chiangrai Prachanukroh hospital from 2010 to 31 December 2016. We collected
the data of operating and complications of surgery.
RESULTS
There were 25 patients enrolled in this study. The proportion of females
was 4:1, mean age was 43 years and 6 months, Mean duration of surgery was 86
minutes, and mean blood loss was 46 cc. 1 case (4%) was converted to open
adrenalectomy, average of admitted 4.3 days. We found complications such as
blood loss, diaphragmatic injury, pancreatic injury, adrenal crisis.
CONCLUSION AND DISCUSSION
Laparoscopic adrenalectomy is safe and feasible in rural hospital.
Operative instrument and perioperative medical care are important role of
successful treatment.
