JAMES “JIMMY” AMODIO SCHOLARSHIP
Presented by Eastchester Eagles Sports Club
In March 1977, James “Jimmy” Amodio was a junior at Eastchester High School. Jimmy, quiet and soft-spoken, was one of the most popular kids in school. An avid athlete, he was an enthusiastic participant on the varsity football and track teams.
In November 1975, Jimmy lost his father, Anthony, and his brother, Vincent, in a tragic car accident. Jimmy’s emotional strength and maturity helped his mom through this devastating loss. He loved his family dearly and conducted himself in a way that made his mom proud of him and grateful for his tender care.
In early 1977 tragedy again struck the Amodio family. While training for his spring track season, Jimmy became ill. Within a week, this active, healthy young man had died. Despite the pain he suffered in his last days, he continued to reassure his mom that he was okay. The entire Eastchester community was devastated by Jimmy’s sudden passing.
Jimmy Amodio influenced his friends with courage, determination, respect, school spirit, commitment and love. He has been an inspiration to our athletic programs, particularly the football team. For young athletes, his spirit continues with the traditions passed from season to season. Members of the football team draw upon Jimmy’s strength and courage every time they pass his monument located just outside the football field.
This scholarship is presented by the Sports Club in Jimmy’s memory to athletes who have shown courage, determination, respect and school spirit.
