AUGUST “AUGIE” NARDONE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Presented by Eastchester Eagles Sports Club
August “Augie” Nardone was a man of love, devotion, dedication and commitment. To his wife, Mary, their son Augie Jr., and to the numerous children of Eastchester and Tuckahoe who he coached, mentored and guided.
Augie was a White Plains Police officer for over 20 years. After retiring from the police department, he continued to dedicate himself to his community by working in both the Eastchester and Tuckahoe School Districts to ensure every child could learn in a safe environment. But, Augie was best known for his love, devotion, dedication and commitment to the children; those he coached in the Eastchester Little League and the Eastchester Basketball League and those he guided in the Eastchester Instructional Basketball League.
With the passing of our friend, Augie, we lost one of the most devoted, dedicated and committed men to the children of both Eastchester and Tuckahoe. It is hoped Augie’s memory will continue to live on in the community for years to come.
This scholarship is presented by the Sports Club in Augie’s memory to athletes who have shown devotion, dedication and commitment.
JOSEPH “MR. Z” ZUMAR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Presented by Eastchester Eagles Sports Club
Joseph Zumar (“Mr. Z” as he was affectionately called) was a man of great integrity and character who always carried himself with class. He began donating his time to the Eastchester Football Program in the late 1970’s. For over 25 years, he served as an equipment manager, water boy, cheerleader and coach. He would regularly attend daily practice sessions helping out where needed.
On game day, he would be at the school hours before kickoff to prepare the medical kit, help players with equipment repairs and fill the water coolers. He was also a member of the “chain gang” working the first yard chains during the game. This devotion to the football program and its players was a labor of love for Mr. Z. He was the players’ biggest cheerleader, always encouraging them and pushing them to succeed. He volunteered his time and never asked for anything in return.
This scholarship is presented by the Sports Club in Mr. Z’s honor to an athlete who has shown devotion, dedication and volunteerism.
