saying they study the Bible so God will be pleased with them
and approve of them. They want to be workmen who won’t be
ashamed. They’ll show you their notebooks, and how systematic
their Bible study is.
RELATIONSHIP. A New Testament gospel guy studies the Bible
to show themselves that they already are approved by God
because of Jesus’ finished work on the cross. They already are
workmen who need not be ashamed because they believe in
Jesus (John 6:29). They know they have already been given the
atonement (Rom 5:11), and thus don’t have to work for it. They
can hear God say, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant.’

RULES. If you ask a ‘religious do-do person’ about church
attendance, they will tell you how often they attend church, and
how often they go to Sunday School, and small group. They will
talk about how much they commit to ‘not forsake assembling
themselves together.’ They often have no comprehension if the
gospel is being preached, as opposed to a rule-based religion.
All they know is that the teaching is being taken from somewhere
in the Bible, so they figure it must be the gospel truth. They never
realize Paul said that 10,000 of them don’t preach the gospel.
RELATIONSHIP. If you talk to a student of the New Testament
gospel about church attendance, they’ll tell you if they go or not.
It doesn’t make a whole lot of difference to them if they just
‘warm a pew’ or not. Instead, they’ll talk in terms of sharing the
