To them, their striving for carnal sanctification is like their
repayment to God for his salvation, and it’s a life-long process.
God gave us a credit on our side of the profit-and-loss ledger,
and now we must pay in back and even it out.
RELATIONSHIP. If you talk to a gospel groupie, they have a
different picture of sanctification. They simply believe Hebrews
that says it was accomplished by the blood and body of Jesus. In
other words, it is all about HIM, not about US. They really shake
their heads in wonder as to where some pastors get some of the
stuff they believe and teach – of course as part of those ‘10,000
Instructors.’ They just chalk it up to being brainwashed in a
religious cemetery. Sure, they know they have some rough areas
in their lives that need to be dealt with. Don’t we all? Don’t we
all need to change to some degree (maybe me even more than
you)? But they know to say if sanctification is only viewed as a
humanistic process, then this is not giving ’full faith and credit’ to
the finished work of the gospel of Jesus Christ, which is of course
a phrase we lawyers are trained to observe and say.
I could go on further with this
rules vs. relationship comparison,
somewhat as I do in my message:
“You Have Heard It Preached”…
“But the Gospel of Jesus Says Unto You.”
But I think you get enough of the big picture.
