Objective vs. Subjective Beliefs
What we’ve been considering is an important aspect of our
question about beliefs controlling how we think about dying and
death.
To be a true belief, the Supreme Court says that the belief we
subscribe to must be founded on some OBJECTIVE, reliable
authority or criteria. If it is not, then it is only a preference. It is
merely SUBJECTIVE in nature.
In other words, if people believe something just because it
‘sounds good to them,’ this is not a belief as defined by the
Court. Just because something ‘sounds good,’ does not cut the
mustard.
Beliefs must have authority to support them, like the Constitution
is intended to support the rulings of our Supreme Court.
I have trouble relating and communicating with Christians who
say they do not believe the Bible: we have no foundation for a
discussion.
