 BPS council members will consult with parents about matters under consideration by council. They will provide input to the Principal for consideration who will advise council as to action taken in response. BPS council will consult on matters requested by HDSB. In addition, council members will:
1. maintain a school-wide perspective
2. regularly attend council meetings
3. participate in information and other training programs, where appropriate
4. act as a link between the council and the community
5. encourage the participation of parents within the school community
6. participate on committees of the council and other tasks
7. maintain communication links with the school community and staff
8. collaboratively review the Constitution and By-laws annually.
Co-Chairs:
Co-chairs must be parent members of council who will:
a. call the council meetings
b. prepare the meeting agenda in consultation with the principal and issue the
agenda one week prior to the meeting.
c. Chair the meeting
d. Ensure the minutes of the meeting are recorded, maintained and accessible.
e. Communicate with the principal
f. Facilitate collaborative decision making within a democratic framework.
g. Ensure the community is regularly informed regarding council meetings.
h. Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence, ensuring appropriate
communication to council and provide copies to the secretary for record keeping.
i. Ensure the constitution is reviewed at least once every two years.
j. Prepare the annual report on the council activities.
k. Review and sign all financial reports in a timely manner.
Secretary will:
a. ensure activities of council meetings are documented and maintained in the form of minutes with the minutes being distributed to all members after approval.
b. Ensure minutes from the preceding meeting is distributed to council members one week prior to the planned date for the next council meeting.
c. Ensure approved minutes are posted to the website and available to the school community.
d. Maintain a filing system recording correspondence, minutes, agendas, reports, constitution and by-laws. These record are available to the community when requested.
e. Maintain a current membership and contact list of all council members.
