Study Section 8: More Questions about Jesus Christ
8.1 Connect
I love the song that we sing at Christmas called, “Mary, did you know?” The song is about
asking Mary questions about her little son born in a manger. One line in the song says,
“Mary did you know that when you kissed your little baby, you kissed the face of God?” And
that was so very true. Jesus was God in flesh, Emmanuel, God with us. Mary and Joseph got
to hold Him, love Him, and take care of Him. What an amazing privilege!
By faith we believe that Jesus is God and will be coming back to us very soon. He will come in flesh, just
as he came the first time. He came as a lamb to pay the penalty for sin. Next time He will come as King
of Kings, and Lord of Lords. We have a lot to look forward to….
8.2 Objectives
1. The student will be able to answer the question whether Jesus was deluded or insane about
who He was.
2. The student should be able to cite several verses from the Bible that clearly say that Jesus
was and is God in the flesh.
3. The student should be able to show that hundreds of prophecies in the Old Testament are fulfilled in
the person of Jesus.
4. The student must be able to communicate the importance of the resurrection of Christ.
8.3 Could it be that the claims were false, and Jesus knew this?
At his trial, He was asked if He was the Christ, the Messiah. If he knew that He was not, yet
answered in the affirmative by deliberately lying, then He also knew that such an answer
would result in crucifixion.
He held that He was God in flesh to the last breath. That is very unlikely if he was lying and
knew it.
Could it be that Jesus was just sincerely deluded about who he was? Or maybe he was
insane?
So, if Jesus didn't consciously lie about who he was -- maybe he was really a good person, very idealistic,
actually believing he was God, but surely wrong about it. After all, it is possible to be both sincere and
wrong.
The problem with that view is that Jesus PROVED He was God by the thousands of miracles He
performed. He raised people from the dead, restored sight to the blind, the crippled walked again, He
spoke to the wind and waves and they obeyed Him, He fed 5000 men plus women and children with a
