Study Section 9: The Witness “Spoke”
9.1 Connect.
Have you ever won someone to Christ? I remember years ago an orderly in the hospital I
worked at came to my office and wanted to be friends. It was not long before I noticed his
lifestyle was contrary to God’s plan, so I began to talk with him about his sin and need for a
Savior. One day he came to my desk and asked if I could talk with him. He said he was not
able to sleep because he was needed his sin cleansed and did not know how.
For the next hour I gave him God’s solution to his sin. He trusted Christ as his Savior and was saved! I
spent some time discipling him in how to read the Bible and grow in Christ. A few months later, I went
off to college and never saw him again for 40 years. But I heard from him often. He went on to go to
Bible College and became a preacher of God’s Word. This last year I went to see him and he was sickly.
It was not a few months later that I heard he had gone on to be with the Lord.
One witness to a lost person can make a huge difference in the lives of so many others. This man led
others to Christ. If I had not been faithful, others would have not heard. God desires that we share our
faith so that those whom He died for can be saved!
9.2 Objectives:
1. We will learn that the witness “spoke” is an important command that Christ left to all his
disciples to follow.
2. We must properly understand the Gospel before we can become effective witnesses of
Christ.
3. We will learn various approaches to sharing your faith and what Scriptures are most effective.
9.3 The Witness “Spoke”
This “spoke” called “WITNESSING” is the 4 of the main “drive spokes” through which the hub
th
(Christ) connects to the rim (the Christian life) to supply the power and direction that keeps the
wheel rolling smoothly. The Christian witness is not complicated. When a person receives
Christ as his/her personal Savior, things change in their life. “Therefore if any man be in Christ
he is a new creature. Old things are passed away and all things become new.” (II Cor. 5:17)
Before long people will begin to notice that you are acting and talking differently. When this
occurs, they will wonder what is going on. This is your chance to say, “Well, I’m a new person! Jesus
Christ came into my life and changed me. I may not quite understand it all right now, but I love the
difference He has made in me!” Other questions may be asked or maybe not. But you will have other
opportunities to share Christ with friends and family. Just do it. As you learn more, you can share
more….and the more comfortable you will be doing it. Staying in the Word helps a lot. As you read
about Jesus Christ, notice the way He dealt with folks and the things He told them…..and try to follow
His example.
