Study Section 18: Helpful Suggestions in Witnessing
18.1 Connect.
We are all called to share our faith. Others need to know the Good News that Christ paid the
penalty for their sin. Without this information, they will be lost! It is up to us to tell them of
His great love.
There are a variety of ways to share the Gospel with others. Today we want to suggest a few
ways to share and to illustrate the Gospel with others so they can better understand the plan
of salvation. We hope this information will be helpful as you share with others so they can be saved and
then discipled.
18.2 Objectives:
1. We want to illustrate the Sonny Shenk model for witnessing to others.
2. We will preview the Bridge Illustration so that you can draw it to help others visualize what
Christ did on the cross to save us.
3. We will look at an overall picture of the plan of salvation.
18.3 Other helpful formats to help you get started talking with people about Christ.
The Way to God – Sonny Shenk’s Model
This presentation of the Plan of Salvation first came to me from my mentor, Sonny Shenk.
In an attempt to help us, as young Christians, to share Christ with our friends, Sonny wrote
out a “script” that we might learn to use in guiding a person to Christ. It was not meant to
be memorized word for word but was simply a guide to help us move from one point to
another.
The starting point will depend upon where the seeker is in his/her search for fellowship with God. This
plan assumes that the seeker is at the beginning of the search……
