* Look at the context of the sentence. What is the pronoun referring to?
Examples:
1. Some of the crops were frozen. (plural - Some refers to crops)
2. Some of the harvest was completed. (singular - Some refers to harvest)
3. Each plays by his own rules. (always singular)
4. Each of the women works in her own garden. (always singular)
5. Neither is leaving the country. (always singular)
6. Both are leaving in the morning. (always plural)
