                                                                               th
“An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” That famous 19 century proverb of Welsh
origin espouses the idea that apples have health benefits. We could also give a twist to
the saying by spiritualizing it: “Reading the Word everyday keeps the Devil away.” Sounds
catchy, uh? Of course, there are tremendous blessings and great advantages by being
immersed in God’s Word on a daily basis, but if you do so, expect even more attacks from
Satan, because He does not want you to be an obedient Christian!

It is important that we get to know Jesus Christ in a more intimate way every day. And the process to do
that is through studying and meditating on God’s Word. Another twist we could give to the above
proverb could be, “A chapter a day keeps sin away.” The Bible, in Psalm 119, says, “I have stored up
your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” (ESV) So if you want to learn to know God, and
want to avoid sin in your life, then reading the Bible on a daily basis is the first place to start. Today, we
are going to learn how powerful Scripture is and how we can study the Bible to incorporate that power
               in our lives…

14.3 The Power of the Bible

The Bible is powerful and reading it produces a life-changing effect on the reader. Unlike
any other book known to man, the Bible possesses a living quality that stems from its
divine origin as the unique God-breathed book. The life-changing influence of the
Scriptures cannot be better described than in these verses:

Hebrews 4:12, “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged
sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge
the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

Psalm 19:7-9: The law of the LORD is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure,
making wise the simple. 8 The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of
