the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. 9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments
of the LORD are true; they are righteous altogether.

               Personal Bible Study Methods

There are two main approaches to studying God’s Word. They are:

Devotional Bible Study: The purpose of this type of study is to get to KNOW
God and to DO HIS WILL. This is the most important type of study you can do.
This study means you study the Word of God in order that you may hear God’s
voice personally and that you may know how to do His will and to live more
like Christ on a daily basis. A devotional study may incorporate
the necessity to study the passage for knowledge, as well.

Study for Bible Knowledge. The purpose of this type of study is to probe the depths of
God’s Word - to get to the real meat of the passages and better understand God’s original
               thoughts which He penned.

               Studying the Bible Devotionally

Previously, we learned that it is absolutely essential to know four things about the passage of Scripture:
the language, the culture, the geography, and history at the time of the writing of the passage. Even
with a devotional study approach, it is important to ascertain truths about each of these as we sit down
to read. So as we approach a practice passage of scripture, let’s attempt to find out what we can about
               these four areas:

               Let’s look at Galatians 5: 16 – 26.

                                                                                         17
16 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature
desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in
conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are
                                                                       18
               not under law.
                                                                                              20
                19
The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and
               witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions  and envy;
                                                                                             21
drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit
               the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness
                                                                                              23
                22
                                                              24
and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified
                                                         25
the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the
Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
