• For the first time in 24 years, our annual meeting was scheduled to return to Victoria, BC.
The updated Fairmont Hotel and convention centre looked fantastic. Your CUA 2020
team had a series of productive on-site planning sessions with local organizing chairs
Linda Lee and Jeff McCracken. All venues were secured, and The Void was booked.
Eleven guest speakers and their topics were lined up, 350 submitted abstracts were 1945-2020
reviewed by scientific chairs Keith Rourke, Peter Black and their team. Things were
shaping up for a most memorable, informative and enjoyable meeting. Unfortunately,
the 75 anniversary celebration of the CUA planned in Victoria will have to wait. The
th
core leadership of the CUA felt that the most responsible course of action was to cancel
the annual meeting, given the magnitude of the COVID-19 pandemic. We did not take
this decision lightly. My apologies to all of you who had worked so hard up until now to
make the meeting possible.
• Rest assured, the CUA is still alive and well. Your corporate office is hard at work planning
a series of regional “Best of CUA 2020” presentations around Canada later this year in YEARS OF CUA
order to highlight what was meant to be presented in Victoria.
I hope to see you all at next year’s CUA meeting in Niagara Falls once this pesky virus is
dealt with!
