Hyperbole is an obvious and unrealistic exaggeration not to believe.

Writers use it to draw attentions to the cases in a story.

Jack: Jim. We are throwing a surprise birthday party for my
granddad this Saturday. Would you like to come?

Jim: You must be kidding! He’s 900 years old! Do you still throw
birthday parties for him? Come on! How come?

Jack: Jim, I’ve told you a million times. Please don’t do those stupid
jokes any more.

Jim: Sorry, sorry. I know that I have exceeded the limit this time.
