Why should I come to Runshaw to study Drama and Theatre Studies?
At Runshaw we consistently achieve outstanding results in A Level Drama and Theatre, with 74% of students last year gaining A* to B grades. In addition to repeatedly attaining the highest grades, our students
also are provided with fantastic enrichment opportunities, studying within a department that performs a multitude of shows throughout the year. We also regularly visit professional theatres, allowing students to experience a diverse selection of live productions.
If you choose to study with us, you will be taught by two highly experienced practitioners of Theatre Studies, providing you with a dynamic learning experience, based on their individual expertise. As well as this outstanding teaching, we have an excellent purpose built drama studio and the Amanda Roocroft Theatre, which is equipped with state-of-the- art lighting and sound equipment.
The course is an exciting balance of practical and written assessments, introducing you to a range of theatre practitioners, forms and styles. The course also encourages a critical and sensitive response to the complexities
of theatre, looking at the impact of different historical, social and cultural factors.
As well as giving you excellent knowledge
of classical theorists, playwrights and practitioners that have changed the face of theatre, you will get the opportunity to respond to the texts from the perspective of an actor, director or designer.
What will I study?
Component 1: Studying two set texts and a
live review of a theatre maker (written exam)
Component 2: Creating a devised piece of theatre with an accompanying working notebook
Component 3: Practical exploration of three different play extracts with an accompanying reflective report
