Why should I come to Runshaw to study Physics?
Our Physics A Level is delivered by experienced, specialist teachers, in well-equipped laboratories. Practical work is delivered as an integral part of the course and plenty of study materials are provided, and there are always opportunities for support with work.
Enrichment activities in Physics include visits to local universities and industrial sites relevant to the course. You will also have the opportunity to participate in competitions, such as the Physics Olympiad, and we even schedule a visit to CERN each year! Several of our Physics students have also taken part in master classes in Cosmology, Particle Physics and Engineering at Lancaster University.
By studying Physics at Runshaw there is real potential for progression onto a wide range
of university degrees leading to careers in Engineering, Physical Sciences and Medicine. You will also develop analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills that are valuable in a wide range of occupations and activities.
What will I study?
You will study topics which reflect modern developments in, and applications of, Physics:
• electricity
• mechanics
• particles and quantum phenomena • radioactivity and nuclear energy
• waves and fields
• astrophysics
How is the course assessed?
You will be assessed by three written examinations at the end of two years. Practical work will be assessed throughout the course and will be shown as an endorsement on the final certificate.
