Conflict Management Styles
People are all different. Their individual personalities, backgrounds and experiences tend to influence how they perceive events, actions and words. These perceptions inevitably impact how they respond to circumstances and events in a work environment. Similarly, the degree of the response, positive or negative, will vary according to each person’s perception. Appreciating the different styles in which people respond to conflict is an important first step in managing conflict.
Conflict Management Styles
• Competing – win / lose
• Avoiding – withdraw
• Accommodating - make peace
• Compromising – find the middle ground
• Collaborating – win / win
