1. Providing alignment to the organization’s vision, strategy and big outcome measures
2. Protecting the integrity of the Production System through stability and consistency of purpose
3. Identifying and solving problems with the Production and Human Systems
4. Defining the capabilities of the Production and Human systems that are
required to achieve the organization’s strategy

Most people understand and remember more of what they see than what they hear
They help a Front Line Leader’s ability monitor processes and engage people.
Visual aids provide frequent and vivid reminders of the team’s expectations and priorities.
The purpose for visual performance control boards in a Continuous Improvement Environment is to focus on the process and make it easy to compare expected versus actual performance. These comparisons highlight when the process is not performing as expected and thus where improvement might be needed.
The objective of visual performance control boards is to capture operational performance in the most easily understood manner possible in order to clearly identify opportunities for improvement. This is increasingly important in multi- cultural, multi-lingual workplaces.
Really good visual tools go beyond communicating information. They:
• engage people in the process
• help them see where to improve
• encourage people to take ownership
• help build accountably.
... What improvements could you make to your visual management and
control boards so they help build engagement and accountability?
