FESTSCHRIFT | 79

When I first met Rabbi Rapp he was a student in YU, collecting for
Soviet Jewry. He had come to my desk in the Jewish Studies Department asking for a
            donation.

It was soon established that I knew his parents, since we all grew up in Washington
Heights. He was a bright young man who was into just about everything.

He was a charming person with quite a bit of chutzpah…Otherwise how could he
have gotten smicha and graduated law school at the same time?

Rabbi Rapp, or Dani as I call him, is a remarkable person. On an average Shabbos,
Rabbi & Rebbetzin Rapp can have between 25-30 guests at their table for each meal,
and do it with a smile. They are always making sure the next-door neighbor and the

older gentleman have a place to eat.

Rabbi Rapp had an elderly lady who used to come to him for Shabbos meals. When
she got sick the Rapp family went to the hospital to visit and when she passed away
Rabbi Rapp made sure she had a Jewish burial and even arranged for transportation

to the cemetery for those who needed it.

When my husband had surgery on a Thursday he called me on Friday and informed
me he was prepared to sleep over in the hospital on Friday night so that I could go

home and rest. During the shiva he made sure that there was always a Minyan, many
times bringing his Talmidim, with him.

He may have a quirky sense of humor, but he has a heart of gold.
