Why does presbyopia occur?
Evolutionary biologists think that humans were designed to last
around 40 to 45 years. This explains why we lose our vision for near
distance and undergo various physiological changes such as
menopause in women. Today, human innovation, and man’s keen
intellect, have allowed us to surpass this barrier. Pin in eye procedure
is another modern medicine technique designed to outlive our
expiration date.
In early human civilizations, most people survived as hunters or
farmers. People with poor vision did not fare well against the wild
animals. Therefore, hunters with poor vision were not able to
survive. While farmers on the other hand, did not need great vision,
and could continue working until they were almost blind.
Following the industrial revolution, modern city based society
evolved, and the need for vision became greater. Thus there was
renewed interest in the treatment of vision disorders. Various
methods evolved, merged, diversified, and this gave way to new
techniques. This interesting and challenging period of discoveries and
inventions is still the foundation of modern Cataract, Lasik, Prelex
and Pi in eye surgeries.
Can muscle exercise strengthen the muscles and preserve
reading?
Over the years many scientists have explored the idea of
strengthening eye muscles with various exercises. They have ranged
from the use of candles to computers. Eye surgeons and inventors
even devised surgeries to lengthen and strengthen the muscles
involved in changing the shape of the lens. As you might have
guessed none survived the test of people and time. There is no harm
in trying some muscle exercises, however over-straining can lead to
headaches and eye pain.
