                               Checking the ASC:

                                  1.  Do friends or other patients recommend it?
                                  2.  Who  licensed  it? It  is  imperative  that a  certified  surgery
                                      center be used. In the US, AAAHC or Medicare can certify
                                      ambulatory surgery centers after they have visited the site
                                      and reviewed their polices.
                                  3.  Are the machines current? Phacoemulsification or cataract
                                      machines Stellaris by B&L, Signature by AMO & Infinity
                                      by  Alcon  are  the  latest.  They  increase  safety  by  newer
                                      features  and  less  use  of  energy. A  lot  of  surgery  centers
                                      may have decorative lobbies but ancient machines. Older
                                      machines are not recommended.
                                  4.  Are the microscopes the best? If the surgeon cannot see
                                      your eye he cannot give vision. Zeiss, Wild or Leica are the
                                      top three.
                                  5.  Is there battery backup for the microscope & machines? In
                                      case  of  unexpected  power  failure  this  can  prove  very
                                      important.
                                  6.  Do they carry all equipment & back up lenses? If there is
                                      ever  any  problem  the  center  needs  to  have  operational
