Leveraging Up!
Encouragement is one of the biggest components for a positive
environment. Most often when work is suffering, it is due to a lack of
appreciation for the work they are doing. Even small recognitions for
a job well done will serve to encourage people and uplift their spirits
and positivity. Take the time to send a quick email to a colleague
recognizing the success of a recent offsite or pulling together a last
minute all hands meeting. Take it a step further and copy their
Manager.
Humor is a wonderful relief from the day-to-day stress that
accompanies any office. When used appropriately, humor can bring
so much light and positivity into the environment and changing
attitudes from negative to positive!
For example, my CEO had a favorite mug that he took to all his
meetings, but he had a habit of leaving it behind in conference
rooms. Ultimately the mug would resurface, but during a particularly
stressful time when the mug went missing, I looked high and low and
could not locate it. I decided to have some fun and lighten the mood
in the office. I cut out different size letters from magazines and
crafted a ransom note that read “Send $5 to POB XYZ or the mug
gets it.” I delivered the note during our daily 1-on-1. With a very
serious tone, I said I had received this very disturbing message and
handed the note to him. We had quite a laugh over it. Just remember
