Fourth grade students from Apollo Elementary in Titusville par cipated in the   h annual Global Gingerbread STEM Project. Mrs. Rochon’s class selected and researched businesses in Titusville that are unique and rich in history and constructed gingerbread replicas of their buildings. They chose to build their school,
Jupiter Elementary
Parrish Hospital, Emma Parrish Theatre, Harry T. Moore Center, NASA, police and  re departments and Publix. The students
accessed Google Earth to plan their construc on e orts. They learned the value of teamwork, the necessity of good communica on, engineering skills, the appropriate use of Google Earth, establishing a plan and perseverance.

  At Jupiter Elementary in Palm Bay, Truly Amazing Girls (TAG)
are learning how they can become strong role models at school
and in their community. Fi h- and sixth- grade girls meet twice monthly to have awesome experiences with female role models
in the community. They have learned amazing things from dance moves from the Heritage High step team, photography and sign language to baking skills which were used in the real world when their doughnuts were sold at a bakery in their honor. They’ve had
a behind-the-scenes glimpse of a zoo, a drawing lesson, completed STEM projects with female engineers from Northrup Grumman and
 Students build gingerbread structures and STEM skills.
   Kayla Alcindor is an award-winning author.
learned the science behind jet-car racing from Elaine Larsen of Larsen Motorsports. Media Specialist Brenda Mashio a said the group provides loving and encouraging support, and opportuni es to these students that they may not have had otherwise.
In addi on, Jupiter Elementary student Kayla Alcindor is the Grade 6  rst-place winner for the American history essay contest sponsored by the Na onal Society Daughters of the American Revolu on. To create her essay, Alcindor relied on her personal experiences from when her uncle was deployed, conducted research and added crea ve ideas. She
will read her work during a DAR chapter mee ng and par cipate in the state-wide compe  on.

  Music Educa on
Cynthia Johnson, the district’s music resource teacher, was selected to receive the 2018 Florida Music Educa on Associa on (FMEA) Leadership Award for her outstanding contribu ons to music educa on throughout the state. Johnson has made signi cant contribu ons to music curriculum, and her work is o en used as a state-wide model. She received the award at the FMEA Professional Development Conference on Jan. 12. Johnson Middle, Central Middle, Southwest Middle, West Shore Jr./Sr. High and Satellite High also received FMEA recogni on. The schools earned music enrollment awards for their strong programs.
