Lord, Thou Great Physician, I Pray
Lord, preserve the strength of my body and of my soul so that I may have the strength and wisdom to care for myself, my family, and my patients.
Lord grant me the serenity to accept the things that I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
Lord give skill to my hand, clear vision to my mind, kindness and sympathy to my heart. Give me singleness of purpose and a true realization of the rare privilege that is mine.
Lord allow me to always remain humble and kind.
Lord allow me to uphold the fundamental principles of the medical profession: primacy of patient welfare, patient autonomy, and social justice for all patients and persons.
Amongst these, I will do no harm.
I will not give a drug that is deadly to anyone.
I will commit to professional competence to maintain the integrity of the profession and to provide the most updated and appropriate care to my patients.
I will commit to honesty with patients to uphold trust and transparency when rendering care.
I will commit to improving quality of care for my patients and improving the quality of life for those that care may not be rendered.
I will commit to improving access to care and eliminating barriers that prevent it. Along with working to find just distribution of finite resources.
I will commit to extending the principles of my profession to my community so that I may help those less fortunate and address the social determinants of health.
I will commit to aide in the training of future physicians after me as I was trained by the physicians before me.
I will contribute to the greater scientific knowledge through research that can improve on the quality of care we are providing through evidence-based measures.
I will commit to the prevention of disease as this is just as important as the treatment of it.
Lord grant my patients confidence in me and my art and follow my directions and my counsel. Into as many houses as I may enter, I will go for the benefit of the ill and for the benefit of those in need.
Almighty God! Thou hast chosen me in Thy mercy to watch over the life and death of Thy creatures. I now apply myself to my profession. Support me in this great task so that it may benefit mankind, for without Thy help not even the least thing will succeed.
