Maria Gillette
I pledge before God and all mankind,
To first and foremost keep abreast the knowledge that,
My place in the practice of medicine is a privilege and
Not a right, and therefore I promise to be dedicated to my
Study and practice of this field.
I pledge to practice in all humility,
Taking note to not think of myself more highly than others,
But rather as a servant of humanity.
I pledge to operate in all honesty,
To my peers, to my patients, and to myself, and in so doing,
I promise to not be ashamed to admit when I need help.
I pledge to hold the wellbeing and privacy of all my patients, without partiality, As of paramount importance,
And therefore I promise to only practice my art to heal and assist,
Never to cause harm.
I pledge to live an honorable life in words and in deeds,
So that I may represent the field of medicine well,
Even outside of the clinical setting.
I pledge to be a life-long learner,
So that I am equipped with any advances in knowledge
That may help those I seek to treat.
Finally, I pledge that, in leading a life dedicated to treating others,
I will not neglect to also take care of myself,
As I am most effective in helping others be well, when I too am well.
May I uphold these pledges to the best of my ability, always.
