Mackenzie Mayhew
I will use the knowledge I acquire to benefit and improve as many people’s lives as I can.
I will know my limitations and not be afraid to say “I do not know” or to get help when necessary so as to provide the best care to my patients and to do no harm.
I will treat my patients the way they wish to be treated.
I will never forget that I am treating the individual, not simply a disease; I will treat every patient with empathy and compassion.
I will always keep in my mind the effects that illness has beyond my patient, including the impact on their loved ones, financial stability, added stress and uncertainty, among others, and I will do my best to alleviate these problems that stem from my patient’s illness.
I will practice medicine without bias and will be an advocate for those that are disadvantaged.
I will never turn a patient away if they cannot afford their care.
I will practice preventative medicine as preventing disease in the first place is the best way to maintain a healthy population.
I will continue to learn and grow my knowledge throughout my career, and I will share my knowledge with colleagues and those that come after me.
I will always advocate for my patients’ wellbeing and try to understand all of the circumstances affecting their current and future health status.
I will respect the privacy of my patients and not share any of their private information that they have entrusted me with.
I will remind myself that I am human, and that I, too, need to take time to care for myself, for if I have not taken care of myself, then I cannot be of help to anyone else.
