Do you feel that elephant’s pain? Can you imagine the struggle the dolphin went through trying to escape the

fishing nets? What can be done? When displaying images such as these people often are driven to act. The

mistreatment of elephants has been seen throughout the media so often and explicit details discovered that the

circuses are being forced to shut down their elephant acts eventually destroying the elephant trade. The

destruction of our oceans and overfishing are being brought into light, while more and more illegal hauls are

being discovered.

Documentaries such as Al Gore’s, The Inconvenient Truth and Leonard DiCaprio’s Before the Flood show the

harmful effects man plays on the climate that in turn is affecting our oceans and millions of species

worldwide. These types of images seen throughout these documentaries have helped raise awareness and

create funds to protect species and environments by reaching millions of people worldwide and educating the

otherwise unknowledgeable. It is important to not only show the harm being caused, but to counter the images

with suggestions of improvement, otherwise the audience may feel helpless. There is always a solution, there

is always another way and it is important to address that as well.
