The Dominant Contribution of Domestic Roles
Between Husbands and Wives on the Quality of
Life of Women-Home Entrepreneurs

Women have a very strategic role and function in the family and society. Women who play multiple roles,
always adapt to various components even though they often face pressure from their environment. When
under pressure, women will adapt themselves to fit environmental conditions and even be able to change
the environment according to their own circumstances. These changes can be in the form of changes in
the functional structure of family life such as patterns of use of time and activities for the family, household
affairs, work, socio-economics, self-development and the use of leisure time. The high role of women in
their lives determines the quality of their lives.
This study aims to determine how big the contribution of the dominance of the domestic role between
husband and wife to the quality of life of women with the population being home-based entrepreneurs in
the Malang City Region. A person with a healthy physical, mental and social condition will create a good
quality of life for himself. If there are physical, mental, or social health problems, it can reduce the value of
quality of life. The research results were analyzed descriptively and presented through tables and graphs.
Measurement of quality of life using WHOQOL-BREF, from WHO and the domestic role of the family is
measured based on daily domestic activities. The results showed that the majority of women's quality of
life of home-based entrepreneurs was high and very high with the biggest contributing factor being the
domestic role which was dominated by the wife by 55.5% and the second being the domestic role which
was carried out together by almost 31%. Of the various factors that affect the quality of life of the mothers
of home-based businesses, namely personal data, business identity, self-satisfaction, self-motivation, and
other supporting factors, the dominant factor is education (Bachelor 42%), running their own business (
68%), a sense of self-satisfaction in running a business (52%) and also a feeling that mothers feel healthy,
feel safe and happy to run their business (52%).
Based on the data, it was concluded that from personal data, including those who are still productive from
education, they are also good at minimum high school, there are bachelors and even masters and
business identities have also run smoothly and can generate sufficient income to meet their needs, it can
be said that the quality of life of women perpetrators Home business is good. Coupled with a good mental
condition, including in terms of self-satisfaction, self-motivation, and other factors, the lives of home-based
entrepreneurs are of very high quality.
The dominant factor in influencing mothers to run their businesses is the education factor, the self-
confidence factor in running their own business, a sense of self-satisfaction in running a business and also
feeling healthy, feeling safe and happy to run their business.

Short Biography:
Thathit Manon Andini, was born in Kediri 58 years ago. She has been teaching in University of
Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) for 30 years. She graduated from Jember University (UNEJ),
and Post Graduate in University of Surakarta (UNS), Translation studies. Her researchs are on
Education, Translation, literature, and Gender. She is now the chair of Women and Children
Empowerment of UMM.
Aini Alifatin was born in Bojonegoro, east java, Indonesia on 02 December 1970. I was
completed my master of Nursing from Unair Surabaya in 2011. She a nursing pediatric lecturer
at the health faculty of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. She is also one of team Works
of Women and Children Assessment and Empowerment Institutions (LP3A-UMM). My research
includes the relationship between the characteristics of respondents to violence against
children.
Dini Kurniawati was born in Malang, Indonesia on January 24, 1982. She completed her master
of Chemical Engineering from Institute Technology Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Surabaya. She has
been teaching in University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) since 2009 up to now. She is
one of the Team Works of Women Empowerment and Children Care of UMM. She is also
active in (Relawan Keluarga Kita) and (Komunitas Guru Belajar). Her interest are t Gender,
renewable Energy, and Waste Management.
