We are facing a climate crisis. In August, the Intergovernmental
Panel on Climate Change reported that climate change is
now widespread, rapid, and intensifying.
The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres referred to the IPCC report as ‘Code Red
for Humanity’, stressing the irrefutable scientific evidence of the influence of human
activities on the climate system.
Secretary-General Guterres has warned that without immediate, large-scale reductions
in carbon emissions, the temperature targets of the 2015 Paris Agreement will slip out of
reach with catastrophic consequences for humanity and our shared global environment.
We must empower our youth to take suitable mitigation and adaptation action to help
them to secure a more sustainable future. We have a moral obligation to do this today,
not tomorrow.
