Iconic Modernist Buildings in Asia
Darren Soh, NYAA Gold Award holder and founding member of the NYAA Young Photographers’ Network,
visited Hong Kong at the invitation of the Hong Kong Public Housing Authority. During his visit, he was given
an exclusive tour of various public housing estates and photographed several iconic modernist buildings in the
city. His work contributes to the documentation and appreciation of architectural heritage in Asia.
Meeting with World-Renowned Architect
The world-renowned architect Moshe Safdie, known for iconic projects such as Marina Bay Sands and Jewel
Changi Airport, was in Singapore for the official opening of his latest project, the Surbana Jurong HQ in Jurong.
Safdie, who has a long history of socially responsible design spanning six decades, expressed admiration for
the photography talents of Darren Soh, a founding member of the NYAA Young Photographers’ Network (YPN).
Safdie recommended Darren as a project photographer to his clients, highlighting the strong connection and
mutual respect they have developed. Safdie and Darren have become close friends.
Pagoda Odyssey: NYAA YPN Exhibition
The ED and Deputy ED attended the launch of Pagoda Odyssey 1915, a year-long blockbuster exhibition at the
Asian Civilisations Museum. The exhibition features over 80 intricately crafted wooden model pagodas, dating
back to before 1915, recently acquired for Singapore’s National Collection.
Complementing this exhibition is a photography showcase by Darren Soh, an NYAA Gold Award holder,
focusing on religious buildings in Singapore. The exhibition highlights Singapore’s cultural diversity and historic
preservation efforts. Pagoda Odyssey 1915 was run from 31 May 2024 to 1 June 2025, allowing the public to
engage with this significant cultural display.
World Cities Summit 2024
The ED and Deputy ED attended the World Cities Summit 2024 held from 2 to 4 June at the Singapore Suntec
Convention Centre. Over three intensive days, they engaged with Ministers and Mayors from more than 60
countries alongside Singapore’s Ministers. The summit, running daily from 8:30 am to 10:30 pm, was a platform
for meaningful exchanges on urban challenges and innovative solutions. Singapore received commendation
from international delegates for its exemplary urban planning and sustainability efforts.
