THE VALUE OF SHAHID AL-QURAN IN THE TASHIL NAYL AL-AMANI
ABSTRACT
Following the Nahu al-Quran theory introduced three decades ago, innumerable
Shahid al-Quran (SQ) studies on Arabic grammar were carried out. The focus of the
studies was on works by Arab scholars as well as the pattern, function and tawjih of
the SQ without focusing on the value of using SQ in scholarly works originating from
the Malay Archipelago. The objective of this study was to elaborate on the
contributions of Sheikh Ahmad al-Fatani (SA) pertaining to the development of
Arabic grammar in the Malay Archipelago, the influence of the Tashil Nayl al-Amani
st
(Tashil) scripture in the 21 century and exploring the value of the pattern, function
and tawjih of SQ as well as other values based on the use of SQ in the literary work.
This study employed the qualitative approach and primary data were obtained via
content analysis and complimented by observation data and interviews. All data were
descriptively and thematically analysed based on five value themes, such as
“Thaqafah Islamiyyah”, “influence”, “academic”, “easy” and “friendly”. The findings
c
showed that the contributions of SA were as an expert reference in aqidah, member
of the al-Qur‟an grammar school and one who instigates love for the al-Qur‟an in
efforts to propagate Arabic grammar in the Malay Archipelago region. The influence
st
of the Tashil scripture in the 21 century is evident in the suitability of the scripture as
a basic reference for grammar, its reliable and firm sanad, demand for its publication
and the scripture is still being recited until today. Whereas the values obtained from
the pattern, function and tawjih of SQ were “Easy” and “Academic”. Using the SQ in
the Tashil scripture in-total was consistent with the five value themes that were
stipulated, where “Thaqafah Islamiyyah” was the most dominant value theme. Besides
that, the discovery of two more value themes, as in “Blessing” (Berkat) and
“Successful” (Taufik), were obtained during the interview with participants of the
study. The implication of this study on the theory and pedagogy of teaching Arabic
c
grammar was the addition of the i jaz rasmi and ta'thiri aspects when analysing the
mukjizat al-Quran and assimilating the SQ values during teaching and facilitating
(PdPc) grammar activities. This study also contributed to the Bitaqah Tadabbur al-
Quran (BTQ) and Tashil scripture that were reviewed using the takhrij SQ.
