29 HALF HITCH COIL FOR STOWAGE
A line that is to be coiled up and stowed away must be ‘tied’ in some way to stop
it uncoiling. The quickest way is to coil the rope and then, using a working end,
form a loop as shown, lead the end over the top of the coils and back underneath
to emerge through the small loop. Pull up tight in a Half Hitch. The coil will
remain secure if the working end is used to hang it on a hook in the locker or
some other securing point so that the weight keeps tension on the Half Hitch.
