30 BUNTLINE OR GASKET COIL
More secure than the Half Hitch Coil, the Buntline Coil can either be hung up or
simply laid down in a locker without coming undone. Coil up the rope in the
usual manner but leave a long tail. Pass this working end round and round the
coils (in an upward direction) to bind them together. Then push a bight through
the top of the coils. Lift it up and spread it out so that it can drop down over the
coils to lie at the top of the frapping turns. All is then worked tight and the fall
may be used to hang the coil up. The Gasket Coil can also (as it was originally)
be used to tidy up a fixed line in situ.
