“Education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better than you found it.” – Marian Wright Edelman
Innocence, joy, vitality and unlimited creative urge devoid of all worries are the main characteristics
of childhood, which should be properly channelized. At Grade 5, we aim to provide the best learning opportunities for each and every student. The teachers are committed to provide the environment and resources that empower all our students with the skills and social competencies that will enable them to flourish in the 21st century. We are committed to continuing the school’s tradition of providing excellence for all and our focus on high achievement is unrelenting. The development of higher order thinking skills, risk taking, adaptability, cooperation and sound communication techniques are fostered during teaching- learning transaction. The 1:1 iPad program and interactive Smart Boards give our students ready access
to technology to enhance learning. We also welcome parent involvement in the classroom and in a range of school activities. Thus, at Grade 5, we intend to promote positive self-esteem and independenc in every child while inculcating moral values in them through daily interactions. We are confident that our students will learn from the best, will become the best and will contribute their best in the truest tradition of OOD.

Students in Grade 7 are midway through their schooling years and embark on a journey towards metacognition. Now at the cusp of their formal operational years, students go beyond textual knowledge and delve into abstract thinking, and understanding perspectives.
Students become critical thinkers and problem solvers. They also learn the importance of developing their own moral compass...and use it to guide their day-to-day decisions and set goals for themselves.
One of the most important things a child can do to reach the goal of success is to attend school every day on time! By attending classes regularly, the child is more likely to keep up with daily lessons and assignments. Research has shown that a child's regular attendance may be the greatest factor influencing her academic success by curtailing the learning gap. Our new initiative this
year to encourage attendance, classes with highest percentage of attendance every month were felicitated in the assembly and their class picture was displayed on the Supervisor’s notice board.
Grade 7 students are encouraged to find their passion. Whether it is the Girl Guide Program, the Genius Within – a flexible and independent learning program , the Middle School Musical, the Inter-School Choral Elocution, the Chevron Readers’ Cup or the Dubai Cares Philanthropy award, this is an age when students hone their skills and define their purpose.
At GEMS Our Own Dubai, growth is never isolated to academics. 2018 being the Year of Zayed, teachers put in significant time to promote altruism through the Girl Guide Donate-a- Uniform campaign. Students here are encouraged to be kind, show their gratitude and serve, lead and continue to make a difference.

The news that H. H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan declared 2019 as the 'Year of Tolerance' made me think of the relevance and meaning of TOLERANCE in every aspect of our life . The word tolerance has a broad meaning – accepting or enduring something we dislike or disagree. An introspection tickles us with the question – Are we exercising its true meaning?
In this fast growing world of technology, consumerism, urbanization, economic development, and hunger for power, are we consciously or unconsciously forgetting the virtue of tolerance?
As educators, we are always trying to inculcate the value of tolerance among our students- to accept small defeats, to welcome people of all diversities, to complete work on short notice and to accept differences in the classroom or among peers, friends and family . Our students are invariably guided to develop positive attitude that elevates tolerance. As quoted by Helen Keller, “The highest result of education is tolerance.” Together, let us ensure that every child under our care is educated in the right way for a better tomorrow.
Dear children, May God help you to be tolerant in every phase of life in its true meaning!

There are multiple challenges grappling an eighth-grader in her senior year at Middle School. Apart from the added academic pressure, they also have to come to terms with their true identity in the face of excessive peer influence, expectations and social media exposure. There is immense talent and potential, however, there are apprehensions and distractions too. We, as educators are here to guide our students’ journey to academic excellence and self-discovery.
The year that went by saw our students engaging in collaborative learning for numerous projects – A Genius Within, Young Philanthropic Award, Global Innovation Challenge and Young City Makers Competition, to name a few. Through the Middle School Musical, ‘Enchanted’, they unleashed their innate talent and enthralled the audience. As socially responsible citizens, every class embarked on the project ‘Grow Green’, where they grew vegetables from kitchen-scraps. Grade 8 students also set an example by selling the highest number of tickets in the Golden Jubilee Charity Drive.
As the year ended, we honored the students who had made significant efforts to improve their academic performance with ‘Be Your Best’ awards. The underlying message is simple – Be Your Best, in all the endeavors that you undertake. Enjoy the journey of learning.
